Royce Sweatman, was born in Miami, FL and grew up in Wilmington, N.C. In 1990, he moved to Harrison, AR, to become Associate Pastor and Minister of Evangelism at First Baptist Church. In addition to serving as Associational Missionary for North Arkansas Baptist Association, Sweatman has also served as First Vice-President of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention for two years, on the Committee on Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention and as President of the Nominating Committee of Arkansas Baptists. Royce has served 8 years on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. Royce Sweatman, Associational Missionary for North Arkansas Baptist Association since 1994, was named Associational Missionary of the Year in 2004 by Ouachita Baptist University (OBU). The award is given each year by OBU to one Arkansas associational missionary. Andy Westmoreland, past OBU president explained, "By selecting and recognizing one person . . . we honor the outstanding work of all Baptist associational missionaries throughout our state.” "God has blessed our association," Sweatman says. "We are seeing folks from all over the Ozarks going on mission. One of Sweatman most enjoyable things to do is taking volunteers on mission & working alongside pastors in north Arkansas, in the area of missions. "People from rural Arkansas have a heart for missions and they are willing to go to the tough places," says Sweatman. North Arkansas Baptist Association has multiple partnerships with Israel, Peru, Canada and Nebraska, helping our churches to reach the world with the Gospel message. NABA has a state-of-the-art Disaster Relief Unit that is ready to go at a moment’s notice. In 2009, North Arkansas Baptist Association was awarded the Religious Organization of the Year for Boone County for its involvement in that year’s ice storm. Sweatman says, “My goal here is to help the churches of North Arkansas become stronger in touching lives with the Truth and Hope of Jesus Christ. Jeanie Tomlinson works part-time as Administrative Assistant to Royce Sweatman. She began working with the North Arkansas Association in May, 2008. Rita can be found working at her desk whenever the associational facility is open, generally Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Her duties include all clerical work for the association, as well as assisting church members and visitors. |
